Originating in Upper Egypt, this well-known (e.g. Isaiah 28: 25-27) but rarely obtainable herb is a tiny little plant with grass-like leaves and umbels of small lilac flowers. The seeds have a hot taste and a strong aromatic flavour and are used for flavouring soups and pastry. 4-6 ins.
