| As we are frequently asked for grow your own Wild Flower Meadow Mixtures, we thought it was high time we listed just a few for you to have fun with. Although these are often offered with the grass seed and wild flower seed all mixed together, we feel, particularly when small gardens are involved, that one has far more control if the two sorts are handled separately. With its long name, you will probably appreciate this happy Wild Flower Meadow Mixture mix is a compromise – we have a country divided into a zillion little gardens, all with special requirements when it comes to choosing plants. This mixture has the widest species range and is particularly useful where the conditions are not easily defined – in other words, the requirements of our average customer! Our packets contain only wild flower seeds without any grass seed. If you want to mix the seeds with a mix of grass seed, we suggest you use our Meadow Grass Mixture (Cat.No. 4010M) which includes a few species such as Crested Dogstail and Red Fescue.
( Single packet price: £2.00 )This wild flower meadow mixture is only intended for the average English garden.
Please note that germination of any wild flower is often slow and unpredictable and, due to the losses that can be expected from direct outdoor sowings, the best way of achieving a “naturalised” area is to sow individual pots of wild flowers with some suitable protection. After germination and hardening off, the young plants can then be planted in their final positions where they are to flower where they will then hopefully naturalise themselves and encourage other wildlife. A comprehensive listing of nearly 200 Wild Flowers of the British Isles that can be obtained separately can be found on our Home Page. |
