Seed Catalogue No.:1276D
English Name:Guelder Rose, Wildflower of the British Isles seeds
Description:A handsome and beautiful, deciduous native shrub, which flourishes particularly well in wet or boggy ground, with Maple-like leaves which turn a beautiful red in autumn. The flower clusters (corymbs) appear in early summer and, very similar to those of a "lacecap" Hydrangea, consist of a central boss of small, fertile flowers surrounded by an ornamental ring of large, white, sterile flowers. These are followed by an abundance of persistent, glistening, bright red, translucent berries, edible provided they are first cooked. (In this connection we are quite sure our readers will want to know that the Narragansett Indians relish them and call them wuchipoquameneash - obviously an onomatopoeic word!) 10-12 ft.
