Description:How, we ask, can you possibly do without this wonderfully versatile ornamental grass? In general appearance it is more like a miniature bamboo than your average grass in that instead of all the blades arising from the root, this beauty produces a clump of very upright stems (culms to be accurate), each of which bears, nicely arranged at intervals, several of the broad leaf blades of its name. These are medium green in summer before turning a vibrant gold in autumn. Beginning in mid-summer, it produces on slender, gracefully nodding stems sprays of dangling oat-like spikelets. These are light green at first, go through a very colourful red-bronze phase in autumn before settling for light salmon-buff with which they will keep your garden attractive all winter. A fabulous cut flower fresh or dried and don’t forget your containers! 3-4 ft.
