This is the most elegant and refined of the North American prairie grasses and one that you will be very happy to have as an ornamental in your border. Slow growing, it produces a dense, flowing mound, 15 ins. tall, of the finest texture composed of the thinnest of thin, thread-like, glossy green blades. In autumn the clump turns a conspicuous deep orange before fading to a light copper for the winter. In late summer the plants bear, on very slender stalks high above the foliage, unbelievably delicate, graceful flower panicles, excellent for cutting. And a completely unexpected bonus: they are perfumed with a fragrance, delicate, sweet or pungent; a blend of coriander and slightly burnt buttered popcorn! Delicious! 2½ ft.
