Search Criteria:Okra, Baby 'Burgundy' Malvaceae Ladies Fingers, Baby Okra
Genus:Okra, Baby More from the Okra, Baby genus
Variety:'Burgundy'
Family Name: Malvaceae More seeds with the Family name Malvaceae
Synonym:Hibiscus esculentus, Abelmoschus esculentus
Seed Catalogue No.:1370D
English Name:Ladies Fingers, Baby Okra seeds
Description:This is rarely seen outside Indian restaurants, where it is known as “Ladies’ Fingers”, but the ribbed, pointed, fleshy, dark green seed pods are delicately flavoured and invaluable for adding body and interest to soups and casseroles. Alternatively, they can be used alone as a cooked vegetable. For this particular variety the name is well earned – the baby pods (2-3 ins.) are deep red in colour which they retain even when cooked. The plants are not hard to raise and can be grown just like Tomatoes, either in the greenhouse bed or in 8 or 10 in. pots. Will succeed out of doors in a summer like 1976, Let them grow to 8 ins. and they remain tender and delicious. Not only that, but if you hate Okra, with its deep red branches and red-veined green leaves, you will have a very ornamental plant for your pains.
