| Magnolia, Pink Tulip Tree seeds |
| Amongst the most of magnificent trees, hardy in the temperate regions. Propagation from seed is a slow process – however, with even a small, well-grown Magnolia species costing at least £20.00, there is a strong economic case for starting from seed. And the sooner you start . . . (and don’t forget, they will merit their place in your garden as superb foliage plants long before they flower). | |
| Quite simply, this is perhaps the most magnificent of the Magnolias. This is the giant ‘Pink Tulip Tree’ of the Himalayas which in its native Sikkim can reach 150 ft. in height. A deciduous tree, it has large, ornamental leaves which alone would justify its place in the garden. In early spring it produces its glorious flowers: large and fragrant like water lilies up to ten inches across in shades of white, pink or crimson, they make an unforgettable sight. Such glory takes many years to achieve but, an object lesson, had we only sown a packet when we moved to Bortree Stile in 1980 (seems but yesterday!), we would have something marvellous to look forward to next spring – we didn’t and we don’t! Packet of 8 seeds. | |
