This is without doubt the best known and most interesting, even exciting, of all insectivorous plants. A rare plant, found only in coastal swamps of Carolina, forming rosettes of flattened leaves each terminating in a trap. Each trap consists of a pair of lobes furnished round their edges with long, comb-like teeth and, on their upper surfaces, with three trigger hairs. These traps are, in sunshine, coloured red which, together with nectar secreted round the inside edges, lures the unsuspecting insect visitors. Whilst supping at this nectar, the insect touches the trigger hairs and, bingo, in as little as 1/20 second, the trap snaps shut leaving it neatly caged and unable to escape. The rest is too painful to describe! Attractive and macabre little plants. Packet of 10 seeds.
