This is a beautiful, improved, long-lived truly perennial version of a cottage garden Verbascum. Forming impressive leafy rosettes, it bears from June to August (and again later in the year if the dead first crop flowers are removed) much-branched candelabras consisting of hundreds of bright yellow flowers, each one with an accent of violet-coloured stamens. An easily grown and architectural plant. Mulleins were known once upon a time as the Candlewick Plant (also, perhaps less flatteringly, as Hag’s Taper!) – if you want to try out this aspect, our supplier suggests first test your fire alarm system, then dip the hairy stems in oil and use as a torch having first removed any bees that may be feasting. 3-4 ft.
