| Quite a feature of the Lake District in springtime is this, what must be one of the country's most beautiful wild flowers, lovely plant which must surely be what Wordsworth had in mind when he wrote (sorry, the writer was quite unable to resist the temptation!):- "I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o'er vales and hills. When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils." Although, with its slightly wavy, pale yellow petals and its deep yellow corona (that's the cup-shaped bit in the middle), it is much like a somewhat dwarf form of the commoner cultivated Daffodils, it is perhaps no exaggeration to say that no cultivated variety actually surpasses the natural beauty of the Wild Daffodil. 8-14 ins.
