This is a rather fine, almost shrubby plant from southern Europe with slightly downy lupin leaves, and bearing numerous erect spikes, each four inches or so long, of large and delightful white flowers tastefully tinged with blue. As each spike fades, it is tactfully hidden by, usually three, new successive flowering shoots. The seed pods are up to five inches long, whitish or beige sometimes tinged red, and would make unusual flower arranging material. A plant with a long history, it was cultivated as a legume by the ancient Egyptians. And finally - it succeeds well on the poorest soil. 2-4 ft. Seed scarce.
