In spite of its second, and commoner English name (and, like whisky, Scotch appears to be more popular than Scottish!), this small tree has very little to do with Scotland and is in fact a native of southern Europe. An attractive species, it has deep shining-green leaves and bears in June long, drooping chains, up to 18 ins. in length, of fragrant, bright yellow flowers.
