If there is any group of plants that appears to have grown enormously in popularity in just the last couple of years, it is these new F1 strains of that old favourite, the Busy Lizzie. Even in indifferent summers many parks and gardens can be seen with large beds that can only be described as, using that well-worn cliché, a riot of colour, with no soil or even foliage visible beneath the countless flowers in a myriad exotic colours. The F1 hybrid Busy Lizzies we list produce dwarf and compact plants with a naturally branching habit, early and uniform, profuse blooming and giving you an abundance of very large, round flowers the entire season that cover the plant in an energetic, foliage-covering fashion. Very easy to grow (but they appreciate a germination temperature of 72-76°F (22-24°C)), they are very tolerant plants flourishing both in full sun or partial shade in borders, pots, containers and baskets. And a tip: transform your back door this year – two 8 or 9 inch pots and two of these plants are all you need!
Description:
This is a splendid variety producing a relatively high percentage of fully double blooms looking like smaller versions of a modern Rose, with the majority of the balance being semi-double. The flowers come in a perfect colour range including pink, scarlet, rose, salmon and white, with a few bicolors for good measure. Although they will make an unusual show in the garden, they make rather fine pot plants and in a suitable window sill will bloom for months on end. Good, too, for hanging baskets and window boxes. 6-10 ins. Packet of 15 seeds.
