It will perhaps be no surprise to learn that this plant is a native of salt-rich soil in central Asia, particularly in regions neighbouring the Caspian Sea. It is a very desirable, graceful and airy, small to medium-sized shrub with spiny, finely downy, silvery foliage and bearing in early summer masses of lovely, mildly fragrant, purplish-pink pea-flowers. An excellent shrub for the seaside.
